Summer Reading Event: What Freedom Brings: Celebrate Juneteenth!

Summer Reading Event: What Freedom Brings: Celebrate Juneteenth!

In 1865, news of freedom reached African descendants in Texas ending their forced unpaid labor and beginning their journey towards promised freedom. Our performance of music dance and songs honors their enduring spirit for freedom, keeping the legacy of ancestors and descendants alive. What books on Juneteenth's commemoration and reflection can you find at your Library?

Program sponsored by Maricopa County Library District as part of Maricopa County Reads, the summer reading program at the library.

Don't forget to sign up for the Summer Reading Game, it's for all ages! Prizes include free books and other great giveaways. Registration begins May 1. Start logging your reading on June 1. Game ends August 1.  To sign up, click here!
