Take a Hike, Do it Right!

Take a Hike, Do it Right!

The City of Phoenix's desert preserves are a highlight of our city. With over 41,000 managed acres that include more than 200 trails, it is important to be prepared to navigate the land correctly and safely. The City of Phoenix continues to be concerned about the safety of hikers, whether they’re locals or tourists, along with the safety of city staff, from park rangers to first responders who handle emergency situations on the trails.

In this presentation we will learn about the specific areas available for a hike with difficulty ratings, mountain rescue performance, signage to follow to prevent getting lost, heat awareness during the year, keeping our furry friends safe on trails, and the "Take a Hike, Do it Right" campaign with 8 steps to follow for your safety outdoors. This program is presented in partnership with the City of Phoenix, Parks and Recreation Department, Natural Resources Division.
