Wild West Fiddle Jamboree: Borderland Echoes & Heritage Fusion
The interactive concerts will feature traditional music, lore, and dance steps for all ages, reviving multicultural early Arizona traditions. Join fiddler Kate Rose and guitarist Armand Ramirez as they guide you through the rich and varied roots of our musical heritage, with particular focus on the fusion of Irish melodies and Latin rhythms.
The workshops will be an up-close encounter with Kate and Armand, where participants can ask questions and receive demonstrations, while those with instruments will have a chance to learn an unearthed Arizona tune by ear, phrase by phrase, and dancers can practice some simple steps and put them together in creative ways. Listeners and improvisers welcome, as we’ll emphasize fun and connection over perfection. Come help revive a piece of our state's musical history into a living tradition!
Join us for one or both exciting events! All ages, abilities, backgrounds, instruments, and musical levels welcome! Each of the 4 events will take place at a different library branch, and the content will evolve, so if you come to all, you won’t be bored, but if you come to any of them, you won’t be lost!
12:30-1:30: Musicians' Workshop: bring your instruments. All instruments, ages, and levels are welcome! Come learn an unearthed Arizona tune by ear, phrase by phrase, lilt tunes with your voice, practice simple dance steps, listen, drum, or improvise.
1:45-2:45: Interactive Concert:Traditional music and lore reviving multicultural early Arizona traditions, and plenty of chances to dance or tap along.
3-4:30: Community Dance: Revive forgotten dances in a fun, lively way within everyone’s reach.
This programming is part of the Wild West Fiddle Project, made possible with support from City of Phoenix Office of Arts & Culture, organized by the nonprofit Wild Steps in partnership with Phoenix Traditional Music and Dance.
