Arizona Room Reopening Celebration

Join us to celebrate the reopening of the Arizona Room and the "Arizona Room for All" project! Visitors can explore the Arizona Room's unique collections related to local Arizona history and culture. Special items will also be on display for visitors to enjoy.

Arizona Room is a local history collection that includes vintage postcards, newspaper clippings files, city directories, vinyl records, yearbooks, and books on subjects and peoples from Ajo to the Zuni (A:shiwi). It also houses the personal archive of James H. McClintock, Arizona’s first postmaster and captain in Roosevelt’s Rough Riders. The McClintock Collection contains over two thousand photos and thousands of pages of correspondence starting from the late 1800s.

Phoenix Public Library was awarded an LSTA Grant in 2025 for, “Arizona Room For All,” a project focused on removing physical barriers of access to the Arizona Room, creating a reading room that welcomes all. Funds were used to purchase new furniture and low vision aids such as portable video magnifiers, illuminated magnifiers, and supplies to promote comfortable viewing and display of our collection.

This project is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
