So, You Want to Start a Nonprofit - Part One: Getting Started & Laying the Groundwork

So, You Want to Start a Nonprofit is a four-part series aimed at those interested in establishing a nonprofit organization. Participants will explore the various types of tax exemptions available, including 501(c)(3) and other categories, and learn the detailed steps required to establish a nonprofit organization – from drafting a mission statement and assembling a board to filing the necessary legal paperwork. Additionally, this series covers crucial regulations that nonprofits must adhere to in order to maintain their tax-exempt status. This series is ideal for aspiring social entrepreneurs and community leaders looking to start a nonprofit or learn more about the rules governing nonprofits.

Part One: Getting Started & Laying the Groundwork

Many of the tax-exempt organizations created with the best of intentions never got off the ground. This workshop is aimed to educate would-be founders on the realities of the nonprofit marketplace by walking through the typical process potential founders face in forming a nonprofit. Topics discussed include:

  • Does this idea have an exempt purpose?
  • Running a charity is a competitive business.
  • Do I need a business plan?
  • Do your homework.
  • The competitive landscape.
  • Alternatives to consider.

This workshop is presented by Ellis Carter of Caritas Law Group, PC.

Registration is required.
