So, You Want to Start a Nonprofit - Part Two: Forming the Entity

So, You Want to Start a Nonprofit - Part Two: Forming the Entity

So, You Want to Start a Nonprofit is a four-part series aimed at those interested in establishing a nonprofit organization. Participants will explore the various types of tax exemptions available, including 501(c)(3) and other categories, and learn the detailed steps required to establish a nonprofit organization – from drafting a mission statement and assembling a board to filing the necessary legal paperwork. Additionally, this series covers crucial regulations that nonprofits must adhere to in order to maintain their tax-exempt status. This series is ideal for aspiring social entrepreneurs and community leaders looking to start a nonprofit or learn more about the rules governing nonprofits.

Part Two: Forming the Entity

Once a non-profit founder has surveyed the non-profit landscape and found a legitimate need, recruited an initial board, created both the business and fundraising plans, and scraped together some start-up funding, they are ready to proceed. In Arizona, it usually makes the most sense to form the entity as an Arizona non-profit corporation. This workshop will highlight key steps to creating a new non-profit corporation in Arizona including how to:

  • Prepare and file articles of incorporation.
  • Prepare the bylaws.
  • Prepare governance policies.
  • Hold organizational meetings.
  • Obtain your Tax Identification Number (TIN).

This workshop is presented by Ellis Carter and Ashley Spear of Caritas Law Group, PC.
